Elvis Santana was the first from the South Bronx to be invited to Michelle Obama's Reach Higher Initiative, which promoted individuals succeeding despite socio-economic background and specific circumstances.
Obama's Reach Higher initiative is meant to inspire students in America to continue their education after high school, whether at a four-year college, a community college or a professional training program and Elvis Santana was one of them.
"I learned my lesson when a friend of mine passed away when he was at the wrong place at the wrong time," he said. "I could’ve been in the same place he was, but I was actually at an archery tournament."
Right now, Elvis Santana is improving locals lives by participating in needed action such as improving environmental protections, low income families in need of employment or housing and advocating for public funding in education. Elvis has been in the front lines on many issues and now he wants to be in the front line as a State Legislator.
